Meet Katie, The Visionary Behind The Loose Caboose Katie’s entrepreneurial journey began in 2007 with the opening of Whipped Bake Bar Cafe in Semaphore, a beloved spot that became known for its inviting atmosphere and delicious food. Katie’s eye for unique spaces and dedication to creating community-centric dining experiences led her to the Bowden Railway Station in 2010. Before even stepping inside, she knew this was a place she had to call her own. Over the next two years, Katie poured her heart into the restoration and transformation of the station, bringing The Loose Caboose to life in July 2012. This endeavor marked a milestone in her career and reflected her deep passion for turning historical spaces into vibrant, contemporary hubs where locals and visitors alike can gather. Katie's journey didn’t stop there. In 2015, she took on another ambitious project with the opening of Crack Kitchen on Franklin Street, an innovative café housed in a repurposed Adelaide Bank building. This space, designed with the help of Structural Concepts Australia, became known for its striking minimalistic aesthetic and natural light-filled interior. A Deep Connection to Local Produce Growing up on the Yorke Peninsula, where her family owned farms, a butcher shop, and a bakery, Katie developed a strong connection to fresh, local produce. This heritage is reflected in every dish served at The Loose Caboose. Katie’s commitment to crafting dishes from scratch is a homage to her Nana’s traditional values, ensuring that each meal is a celebration of South Australian food and culture. A Personal Touch Though Katie sold Whipped Bake Bar Cafe in 2014 and Crack Kitchen in 2017, her love for The Loose Caboose and its community remains as strong as ever.
